General Motors is trying to prove that there is life in South Africa after the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup. It’s after the World Cup that GM SA will introduce the next generation Chevrolet Spark to Mzansi some months after its debut in Europe.
The Spark is Chevrolet’s smallest car. It will measure 3.6 metres in length and have a 2.37 metre wheelbase. The wheel arches will be able to accommodate wheels of up to 15-inches in diameter but as we all know, the boys in Chatsworth, Soweto and Mitchell’s Plain will somehow fit up to 18-inches of wheel on it. Featuring two engines at launch, the Spark should be a wider range this time around. We might even see a turbo diesel motor installed.
The two petrol options are 1.0-litre and a 1.2-litre. Depending on where they are, customers will be able to get safety features like ABS brakes and pre-tensioners in their Spark.
We are first going to see the 2010 Chevrolet Spark at the Geneva International Motor Show during the first week of March.
