VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN NOW AROUND

The Volkswagen Tiguan represents the transfer of the globally successful Touareg philosophy to the class of the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV), a segment which has grown considerably in the past few years.

Travel, adventure and excitement are associated with the exotic sounding name. The Tiguan is suited to urban environments as well as rough terrain far from normal roads and thus provides the driver with absolute freedom.

The name Tiguan is derived from a combination of Tiger and Iguana. The name was chosen by readers of the AutoBild magazine.

A typical, trusted, friendly Volkswagen. And yet everything is new, everything different. The headlights are distinctive; they form an integral unit with the grille and bumper. The actual character of the front end is generated by the interplay of all design characteristics.

The 1.81 meter wide and 1.67 meter tall (without roof railing) Tiguan exhibits a clarity of form and proportion that make the 4.43 meter long SUV stand out distinctively from the crowd in the big city jungle.

The Tiguan comes in 3 distinct specification levels namely: “Trend&Fun”, “Track&Field”, and “Sport&Style”. The front end of the Tiguan Track&Field is specially designed for uncompromising off-road duty and takes up a special position. With regard to achieving the greatest possible entry angle (28 instead of 18 degrees), it does not have the pronounced front spoiler with matching air inlets that is found on the Tiguan Trend&Fun and Sport & Style. Rather, a distinctive integrated engine underbody protection plate extends diagonally from a line between the tires up to the radiator grille.

Trend & Fun - Comfort orientated, 18º front end

Even the base version of the Tiguan has extensive convenience and safety features. When it comes to safety, these include a protective network of six airbags, the electronic stabilization programme (ESP), trailer stabilization integrated in ESP (for vehicles with trailer hitch), Isofix child seat anchorages on the rear bench and electronic parking brake with Auto-Hold function.

Standard on-board convenience features also include the RCD 300 radio with integrated CD/MP3 player. Climatornic control system, four electric window lifts, electrically adjustable and heated outside mirrors, Multifunctional Display Plus (trip computer), RF remote control of central locking and various storage compartments and bins.

SPORT & STYLE – SPORT, LIFESTYLE PACKAGE, 18º FRONT END

Some of the features of the very exclusive Tiguan Sport&Style, in addition to those of the Tiguan Trend&Fun, are: 17-inch “Los Angeles” alloy wheels with size 235/55R17 tires, chrome roof rails, protective radiator screen with chrome accent strips and window graphics in chrome, tinted windows starting at the B-pillars (up to 65 percent light absorbing), sport seats with height-adjustable lumbar supports, center console with folding and height-adjustable armrest, folding front passenger seat, drawers under the front seats, folding table and storage pockets on the backs of the front seats, leather for steering wheel, gear shift knob and gear shift boot, leather seats, cruise control system and tire pressure indicator.

The Sport& Style also has a dynamic sport suspension which is not lowered but stiffer to reduce body-roll.

TRACK & FIELD – OFF ROAD DUTY, 28º FRONT END

The Tiguan Track&Field was specially configured for tough off-road duty with its 28 degree front module. Standard equipment on the Tiguan Track&Field includes an off-road switch, which at the press of a button awakens an entire armada of assistance systems for making drives off-road especially safe. Specifically, in one fell swoop this switch activates the hill descent assistant (optimal control in descents), modified driving pedal characteristic (finer metering of engine torque), EDS adaptation (electronic differential locks are activated at the slightest slip), ABS adaptation (improved braking on loose substrates), hill ascent assistance (support in ascents and clutch protection) and – together with an automatic transmission – gear level preselect (including optimal engine braking effect). The compass in the vehicle instrument cluster for all Track&Field models, as well as black roof rails as standard, complement the off road styling.

PERFORMANCE

The new Tiguan with its innovative charged engines promises excellent driving dynamics like no other vehicle in its segment. Only direct injection engines are offered in the Tiguan range. Efficient TSI technology will ensure that the driver can look forward to pure driving enjoyment.

With an output of 110kW on the 1.4 TSI and 240Nm of torque, the highly acclaimed TSI engine provides maximum power with minimal fuel consumption.

This 1.4l twin-charger TSI (Turbo Stratified Injection) engine is the world’s first petrol engine with direct injection and dual charging. It combines turbo charging, super charging and direct fuel injection to deliver outstanding performance allied to frugal consumption and importantly, reduced C02 emissions.

The 2.0 TDI engine which comes with 103kW and a high torque of 320Nm is equally powerful with a smooth running on the road.

The Tiguan has everything you need to really get you going. It comes with 6-speed manual gearbox or the latest 6-speed Tiptronic. Both transmissions satisfy special off-road requirements. The automatic transmission has a gear level preselect in off-road use, which prevents shifting to the next higher gear.

In conjunction with the 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive, engine power can be distributed to all four wheels to ensure excellent handling on the road, thanks to McPherson suspension in front, which is especially tuned for the SUV with lower wishbone and wheel-locating struts. At the rear the dynamically superb four-link rear axle handles the task at hand with aplomb.

In addition, the electronic differential lock (EDL) makes it easy for the driver to drive off with the wheels on two different road surfaces. The “Track & Field” equipment line in particular has impressive off-road qualities.

The panoramic glass roof is 3 times the size of a conventional sliding roof with 40% larger opening; front half functional and electric interior blind.

Optional Satellite Navigation system offers the following class-leading features: CD/DVD/MP3/WMA playback, 30 GB hard drive (download MP3s or Navigation info to free up CD/DVD-drive); Touch-screen functionality; 6.5” wide VGA colour display, specially developed off-road navigation system: possible to record up to 500 route points during a journey, even in non-digitised areas (and includes compass).

“Park Assist” parallel parking assistant offers first-in-class technology. By pressing the Park Assist button, the Tiguan’s park sensors scan parking bays for a suitably sized space. Once selected, all that is required is the selection of reverse gear and the Tiguan will steer itself perfectly into the space. Control of the foot pedals is required.
