Ford’s Ecoboost regime is gaining much momentum in the US where word is that the company is introducing a smaller version of the concept. Currently Ecoboost is available as a 3.5-litre V6 and can be found within the Lincoln MKS, MKT, the Ford Taurus SHO and the Ford Flex.
Insideline says its sources confirm that a 2.0-litre Ecoboost four-cylinder engine will power some upcoming Fords as well as next-generation models. This compact petrol engine would be turbocharged and produce around 169kW (230hp) and about 325Nm.
These numbers might sound impressive to the novice but Ford Europe actually made them from some years already, with cars like the Mondeo ST220 and the current Focus ST from a 3.0-litre and a turbocharged 2.5-litre.
