2010 Mazda CX-7 Overview
The 2010 Mazda CX-7. The changes add up to a great value equation -- the Mazda CX-7 is a great family SUV with cool styling and a sporty driving experience.
For 2010, the Mazda CX-7 boasts new styling and a new base engine. Mazda has addressed this concern with the new model -- the 2010 Mazda CX-7 starts at $2,350 less than the 2009 model. Though the Mazda CX-7 is improved, it still isn't perfect. The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 also offer plenty of cargo space, and the RAV4 even boasts an optional third row.
The 2010 Mazda CX-7 comes in three trim levels -- the new SV base model, Sport, Touring and Grand Touring -- with a new 2.5-liter base engine and an optional turbocharged four-cylinder
The turbocharged 244-hp 2.3-liter engine is still available, and this year Mazda raised the turbo engine's fuel economy a bit by making a few engineering tweaks.
Alas, none of these changes address one of the CX-7's more notable drawbacks -- cargo capacity and rear passenger room.
The 2010 Mazda CX-7 is a midsize five-passenger crossover SUV available in four trim levels i SV, i Sport, s Touring and s Grand Touring.
The well-equipped base i SV trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioning, full power accessories, cruise control, a six-way manually adjustable driver seat, a tilt-telescoping steering wheel and a four-speaker CD stereo with an auxiliary audio jack. The i Sport adds privacy-tint rear glass, a leather-wrapped steering wheel/gearshift knob and Bluetooth connectivity.
The s Touring model adds a turbocharged engine, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust outlets, leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver seat, heated front seats and a rear cargo cover. The top-of-the-line s Grand Touring features 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic xenon headlights, foglights, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, heated exterior mirrors, automatic climate control, a navigation system, keyless ignition/entry, a rearview camera, electroluminescent gauges, distinct leather upholstery, driver seat memory settings, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a four-way power passenger seat and an upgraded Bose audio system with satellite radio and a six-CD changer.
It's paired to a five-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. The i SV and i Sport are front-wheel-drive only, while the s Touring and s Grand Touring can be had with either front- or all-wheel drive. In normal driving situations, the AWD system routes 100 percent of the engine's power to the front wheels. Fuel economy estimates from the EPA for the new 2.5-liter engine are 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined for a FWD model.
Antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags come standard on all trim levels. In crash testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 2010 Mazda CX-7 did great, garnering a top five-star rating in both front and side collisions. In our own braking testing, the CX-7 s performed excellently for a compact crossover, with fade-free stops from 60 mph in just 113 feet.
Ample hip- and headroom keep CX-7 passengers comfortable, even with all five seats occupied. For more Interior Features information, see our Specifications page.
When it comes to handling and braking performance, the 2010 Mazda CX-7 lives up to Mazda's sporty reputation.

2011 Audi quattro concept : a tribute to an all-wheel legend
Is it just a reminiscence of the anno 1980 Audi quattro or already presented a preview of a small sports car with four rings? This question should provide many visitors to the Paris Motor Show (2 to 17 October 2010) at the sight of the Audi quattro concept study.
From the first look at the "Col de Turini and white" painted show car appeared on the memory of a legendary ancestor: the 306 hp strong and at the time of 200,000 Mark expensive Sport Quattro was a shortened quattro variant and provided the basis for the famous Rally cars with Walter Röhrl at the wheel. For the current study, a series of transport was reduced, because the base supplies the Audi RS5. Compared to the four-seat coupe, the rear overhang has been reduced by 20 centimeters, the result is a length of 4.28 meters. At the same time, the wheelbase was shortened by 15 inches and lowered the roof line about four inches.
The body of the Audi quattro concept is mainly made of aluminum, there are the hood and the trunk lid as well as other components made of carbon. The result suggests a weight of 1,300 kilograms to book, almost exactly the level of the 1984 Sport Quattro presented. Eye-catching design features are the strongly contoured C-pillar, 20-inch wheels and a large single-frame grille without chrome frame. All lighting units use LED technology, the rear lights remind their straight shape of the Audi 100 from 1976.

GMSA ADDS SPARK TO PORT ELIZABETH PLANT
General Motors South Africa announced today that it will be building the new Chevrolet Spark at its Struandale Plant in Port Elizabeth.
This trendy entry level vehicle will become the third vehicle platform, in addition to the class leading Chevrolet Corsa Utility and the very successful Isuzu KB. The vehicle will initially be produced for the local market as well as for markets in Australia, New Zealand and other Asia Pacific right hand drive markets.
Together with the new Spark programme, the new generation Isuzu KB and Corsa Utility will represent an investment of over R1 billion. “This investment reinforces our commitment to doing business in South Africa and continues a key player in motor industry” said Edgar Lourencon, president and Managing Director of GM Africa.
“This decision was based on the Spark success in the global market and to support GM South Africa’s objective to assemble over 50 000 vehicles per annum in line with the government’s Automotive Production Development Plan (APDP) which replaces the Motor Industry Development Plan (MIDP) in 2013.”
Lourencon said the Spark is well suited to the South African market, with customers having placed over 1800 orders for this product during the first month of sales. “We therefore have no doubt that the new Spark is going to be a volume player here.”
The Spark, which was launched in South Africa in August this year, is currently imported from Korea. Local production is set to commence during the first quarter of 2012 creating about 500 direct new jobs in GMSA. GM South Africa will assemble around 15 000 Sparks per annum with half of this destined for export markets.
He said the South African government is an important stakeholder to its business and expressed his gratitude towards them. “We want to thank government for the support the industry receives via the APDP. Without these levels of support, we would not be able to make these investments in the South African automotive industry.”
Over and above this, GM South Africa also announced that it had reached an agreement with Isuzu Motors Limited of Japan to expand exports of its Isuzu light commercial vehicles in Sub-Sahara Africa. This agreement will provide export opportunities beyond the current export markets of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mauritius.
The Isuzu export contract together with the new Spark export contract is valued at over R1.5 billion per annum.
Lourencon said that there were opportunities in the short to medium term to expand export markets for new Spark and Isuzu KB. “The expansion of export markets for these two vehicle programmes is however dependent upon the ability of the South African motor industry to improve its overall competitiveness. The recent labour disruptions in the automotive and components industry and the associated increases above the rate of inflation, will require that a concerted and joint effort is undertaken by industry, the union and government to significantly improve productivity levels in order to reverse the current very negative trend. We are confident the necessary work will be done and we are committed to do the best we can to help grow the automotive industry in SA."

CLASSIC AUDI QUATTRO UPDATED?
As part of celebrating 30 years of the quattro AWD system, Audi unveiled this brave quattro Concept car at the 2010 Paris International Motor Show. Based on the RS 5, the concept car comes powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged engine with 5 cylinders. It is worth 300kW in power and 480Nm in torques. Audi says it will accelerate from 0 – 100km/h in 3.9 seconds.
The interior is basic but equipped enough to feel comfortable, apparently. At 4.3m long, 1.9m wide and 1.3m tall, the quattro Concept is slightly smaller and therefore lighter. In fact, it weighs in at 1300kg which is just about the same as the original Ur-quattro from the year 1984!
Of course the actual quattro AWD system is standard and now features a crown-gear centre diff which varies power between the front and rear axles with much greater accuracy and flexibility.
Some might dish this car aside and say it’s just a nostalgic project but I would wager that Audi is seriously considering putting it into production as a direct competitor to the BMW M3 GTS. Watch this space.
