2011 Saab 9-4X

2011 Saab 9-4X
The Saab 9-4X will be Saab’s first crossover, although GM rebadged a Chevrolet TrailBlazer as a Saab 9-7x several years ago.
Saab says a front-wheel-drive non-turbo model can sprint to 60 mph in about 7.9 seconds and sips fuel at an average of 20 mpg combined.
Saab will offer the 9-4X Aero with a turbocharged 2.8-liter, 300-horsepower V6, the same engine that is also optional in the SRX. Saab says to expect combined driving to net around 18 mpg.

Saab’s all-wheel-drive – dubbed XWD – will be standard on the Aero and optional on the base Saab 9-4X. It adds an electronically-controlled rear limited-slip differential called eLSD capable of splitting up to 50 percent of torque between the rear wheels. The tailgate features another ice block-style light cluster running horizontally below the windshield.

Aero versions have mesh grille inserts, fog lights, xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights and 20-inch alloy wheels. Saab's signature air vents employ a joystick-like knob for directional airflow. The three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel has standard cruise and audio controls. Vinyl seats and faux wood trim are standard. Genuine leather, heated and cooled front seats and faux carbon fiber trim are optional.

Rear climate control and heated rear seats are optional. The larger RX, meanwhile, has 40 cubic feet.--The Aero has a turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 with 300 hp and 295 pounds-feet of torque.
Power in the uplevel Aero comes courtesy of the same 2.8-liter twin-scroll turbocharged engine that Cadillac recently discontinued on the SRX due to low consumer interest. The Aero matches the new X3's horsepower, but falls short by five torques. That power is routed through a standard six-speed automatic, reaching the road through all four of the Aero's attractive turbine-style 20-inch alloys (lesser models make do with 18-inchers). Non-Aero 9-4X models will make do with a 3.0-liter, normally aspirated V6 offering 265 horsepower (at a sky-high 6,950 rpm) and 223 pound-feet of torque (at a dizzying 5,100 rpm), available in either front- or all-wheel-drive guise. Sadly, only fully optioned 2.8-liter models were on-hand during the launch event, so we'll have to wait to return our verdict on the standard Saab 9-4X. Given that the 2.8-liter feels on the healthy side of adequate, we're guessing the standard model won't make many enthusiasts' shopping lists.

Aero models make further overtures to enthusiasts with their DriveSense variable-effort steering and damping settings. Utilizing the touchscreen, drivers can choose 'Comfort' (default), 'Sport' (quicker throttle response and shift schedule, stiffer dampers and firmer steering), or 'Eco' (tardier throttle responses, quicker upshifts). Thanks to the 9-4X's stout chassis, our drive time revealed that Trollhättan's tuners have been able to bake-in good ride compliance without sacrificing body control. We do wish, however, that we could individually alter the various parameters in DriveSense, a functionality that Saab officials assure is coming after the short 2011 model year.

On the efficiency front, fuel economy for the 9-4X Aero chimes in at 15 city and 22 mpg highway (base front-wheel-drive models tally 18/25 ratings), which trails class leaders a bit – no doubt due to the Saab's larger footprint and heftier weight, but at least it's possible to haul around more stuff.

Speaking of more stuff – there's no shortage of standard equipment in the top-level Aero trim. Base, front-wheel-drive 9-4X models start at a much more modest $34,205, meaning that no matter how you slice it, the Swedish offering is cheaper than its less dynamic peer from General Motors.

2011 Saab 9-5 2.0T Premium - Short Take Road Test

Saab’s best deal may be a limited-time offer.

2011 Saab 9-5 2.0T Premium

It was just last year that GM shoved Saab off its headquarters’ roof. As the Swedish brand plummeted to its demise, a bird, er, a plane—no, Spyker swooped in and saved it, thus putting Spyker into free-fall. Quite a shame, really, because the 9-5 sedan is by far Saab’s best product in recent memory.
At the bottom of the 9-5 range is this front-drive model powered by a 2.0-liter four with direct injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger. It’s not nearly as quick as the uplevel all-wheel-drive V-6 turbo model—6.3 seconds to 60 mph [C/D, December 2010]—and it loses an ounce of exterior flair without the top-trim Aero’s optional 19-inch wheels, but its competent dynamics and roughly 10-grand-cheaper point of entry make it the deal of the lineup.
The little four delivers its 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed automatic, resulting in a ho-hum 0-to-60 time of 7.9 seconds. Once moving, though, the 2.0T has no trouble hustling its 3886-pound load through passing maneuvers. The quarter-mile arrives in 16 seconds flat at 90 mph, but those looking to eke out a bit more performance have the option of filling up with E85. Saab claims no change in output with the higher-octane corn juice, but we saw an improvement of 0.2 second to 60 mph and a 0.1-second-quicker quarter-mile. Efficiency is the penalty here; we observed 17 mpg with E85 and 22 overall with gas. The EPA ratings are 18 mpg city and 28 highway (with gasoline).
From the helm, the steering is playful, but the level of  feedback doesn’t quite match the surprising athleticism provided by the strut layout up front and the multilink setup in back. The flat cornering, though, comes at the cost of a stiff ride. While the brake pedal on our test car was spongy, the car stopped from 70 mph in a commendable 166 feet.
The 9-5’s tailored sheetmetal, approachable price, and roomy cabin provide an attractive way to enter the premium segment. But with the company’s small dealer network and financial issues, Saab needs a superhero to swoop in once again.

2011 Saab 9-3 Wagon

2011 Saab 9-3 Wagon
The 2011 Saab 9-3 is a FWD entry-luxury car available in sedan, convertible, and wagon trim levels. Options include 18-inch alloy wheels, xenon cornering headlamps, carbon-fiber trim, leather-appointed sport seats, 6-disc CD changer, navigation, power moonroof, and heated front seats.

No matter which 2011 Saab 9-3 model you choose, it's powered by a 210-horsepower, 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Most Saab 9-3 models are now offered in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel-drive XWD models, and there's a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission or 5-speed automatic (6-speed auto only for the XWD).

There are no significant changes for the 2011 Saab 9-3,In Aero trim, the SportCombi even handles reasonably well with sharp steering and controlled body motions.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2011 Saab 9-3 is available in three body styles: sedan, convertible and a wagon known as the SportCombi. Front-wheel drive is standard on all, but both sedan models can be equipped with AWD (dubbed XWD).

The convertible adds 17-inch wheels and a full power soft top. The Comfort package available on all 2.0T trim levels adds headlamp washers, heated front seats, an eight-way power passenger seat and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The 9-3 Aero gains 17-inch wheels on the sedan, while all body styles get adaptive xenon headlamps, front foglamps, two-tone leather upholstery and the 2.0T's optional features. The Premium package adds rear parking sensors, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors and driver memory functions. Front-wheel drive is standard on all but the 9-3X, which is all-wheel drive. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the front-drive 2.0T models, and a no-cost option on the Aero, 9-3X and AWD sedans. A five-speed automatic standard is standard on the front-drive Aero models and optional on the 2.0T models. With the manual and front-wheel drive, the 9-3 sedan and SportCombi return an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.

Safety
The 2011 Saab 9-3 comes standard with antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, active front head restraints and side airbags. The sedan and SportCombi include side curtain airbags, while the convertible features taller side airbags that cover the head of each front occupant. The convertible was not tested. The Saab 9-3 does carry more cargo than many cars in its class, offering 15 cubic feet of trunk space in the sedan and 12.4 cubes in the convertible.

Driving Impressions
With the 210-hp 2.0-liter turbo being the 2011 Saab 9-3's sole engine choice, acceleration is underwhelming for this class of car.
Comfort features include dual-zone automatic climate control, power driver’s seat,an air conditioned glove-box,alloy wheels, XM Satellite radio, sports seats, Bose audio system and GM’s OnStar system

2011 Saab 9-5 Review

2011 Saab 9-5
The 2011 Saab 9-5 competes within two classes, luxury large cars and upscale mid size cars. Its spacious interior puts it up against large cars, and its price pits it against midsize cars. The top-line 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero is joined by a less expensive Turbo6 six-cylinder trim as well as a base model powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder. The Turbo6 XWD shares the loaded Aero model's powertrain, minus its enhanced handling features and sporty trim. A loaded 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero rings up at more than $50,000, a seemingly shocking sum for a Saab.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2011 Saab 9-5 is a midsize luxury sedan available in Turbo4, Turbo4 Premium, Turbo6 XWD and Aero trim levels. The Turbo4 Premium adds 18-inch wheels, headlight washers, a panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, power-folding and auto-dimming exterior mirrors, keyless ignition/entry and remote ignition. The Turbo6 XWD adds the same equipment, plus a V6 and all-wheel drive. The Rear Passenger package adds tri-zone automatic climate control, rear seat audio controls, and a DVD entertainment system with two front-headrest-mounted screens. The 9-5 Aero gets the Technology package standard, plus slightly different front and rear fascia designs, different 18-inch wheels, upgraded rear brakes, sport-tuned adjustable suspension, an electronic limited-slip rear differential, adjustable drive settings, paddle shifters, a sport steering wheel, sport seats and alloy pedals. The navigation system and Rear Passenger package are optional.

The 2011 Saab 9-5 Turbo4 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that produces 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, along with a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic transmission and Saab's advanced all-wheel-drive system are standard. EPA-estimated fuel economy stands at 17 mpg city/27 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined slightly better than average for all-wheel-drive sedans with this sort of power.
Every 2011 Saab 9-5 comes standard with stability and traction control, antilock brakes, front and rear side airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints.

Interior Design and Special Features
In Saab tradition, the 9-5's center control stack wraps toward the driver, bringing all controls within easy reach. The layout is unique to Saab, though, and the backlighting is a very Saab green.

Driving Impressions
We have yet to drive the Turbo4 or Turbo6 models, but the 2011 Saab 9-5 Aero surprised us with its communicative steering and a very neutral balance through quick corners. Saab's all-wheel-drive system (which includes an electronic limited-slip differential) is one of the best, proportioning power seamlessly among the wheels for maximum traction and balance.

The all-new 2011 Saab 9-5 is the cure for traditional German luxury sedans.
The all-new Saab 9-5 comes 67 years after the Swedish Airplane Limited company decided to begin building passenger cars. Many Saab fans would argue that the decade under General Motors saw the Saab brand lose its appeal and character. Saab debated calling the new car a 9-6 but decided to keep the same 9-5 model-name for historic reasons.

During our review we got to drive the Turbo4 front-wheel drive and the Turbo6 all-wheel drive (referred to as XWD in Saab language) around the twisty mountain roads of Daylesford in Victoria (we will review the diesel soon). The Turbo4 has a different rear suspension (H-link) for added responsiveness while the range-topping Turbo6 gets a more sporty HiPerStrut front suspension (same as the Opel Insignia VRX).

The 2.0-litre diesel has 118kW and 350Nm of torque.
The Turbo4 does present a hint of torque-steer if accelerating out of corners, but it’s unnoticeable when driven sedately. Apart from Comfort and Sport, the Intelligent mode is the in-between choice, letting the car’s computer work out a balance between Sport and Comfort depending on your driving style. Overall, the 2011 Saab 9-5 is a very worthy contender in the luxury large-car segment. Check out the Saab.com.au website for list of standard features and specification.

2011 Saab 9-3 Review

Saab 9-3
The Saab 9-3 comes in two models: Turbo4 and Aero X. A five-speed automatic is optional on the Turbo4 FWD, while it's specified as standard on the Aero FWD model. A six-speed automatic is standard on both models when they're equipped with Saab's XWD all-wheel-drive system, which is optional on either model. Fuel economy ranges from 21/31 mpg on the front-drive, six-speed models to 17/27 mpg on XWD versions.

No rearview camera is offered, though rear parking sensors are available on Aero models, bundled in a package.

Spyker is now promising a bright future that involves an entirely new car lineup bolstered by an all-new Saab 9-3.

In Aero trim, the SportCombi even handles reasonably well with sharp steering and controlled body motions.

Body Styles, Trim Levels, and Options
The 2011 Saab 9-3 is available in three body styles: sedan, convertible and a wagon known as the SportCombi. Front-wheel drive is standard on all, but both sedan models can be equipped with AWD (dubbed XWD).
The base 2.0T sedan comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear foglamp, heated mirrors, automatic wipers, keyless entry, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power driver seat with lumbar adjustment, leather upholstery, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a seven-speaker sound system with a CD player and an auxiliary audio jack.

Interior Design and Special Features
There's no iPod interface, the navigation system is antiquated, there's no real-time traffic and Bluetooth is packaged with OnStar. The Saab 9-3 does carry more cargo than many cars in its class, offering 15 cubic feet of trunk space in the sedan and 12.4 cubes in the convertible. The wagon offers 29.7 cubic feet of storage space with the backseat up and an impressive 72.3 cubic feet with the rear seat folded flat.

Driving Impressions
With the 210-hp 2.0-liter turbo being the 2011 Saab 9-3's sole engine choice, acceleration is underwhelming for this class of car.
The exterior of the 2011 Saab 9-3 will see the most changes during this minor refresh. The sedan will get a new front fascia with customers being able to choose from “Vector Griffin” and “Griffin Aero”. In terms of engines, Saab will be adding the Turbo4 and TID4 to the current lineup. There will also be a 2.0 DI engine producing either 163 or 220hp and three diesel variants ranging from 130, 160, and 180hp.
Competition for the 9-3 is said to be the Mercedes SLK, the Audi A3 Cabrio, the BMW 5 series Gran Turismo, the Subaru Impreza WRX, and the Cadillac CTS Sportwagon.

This is the Saab 9-5 SportCombi to natural - Geneva 2011 Live

We have not yet seen the fruits of the new Saab now that its independence and stop living in oblivion was GM, but the current owner of the Swedish, Spyker, is clear that there is potential to go on too long. Among the key models for that promising future is the 9-5 SportCombi, a family can of course show off your style and beauty.

In countries like Germany, Italy and Sweden, the wagon body styles are really important, and up to 70% of total sales on the specific. Therefore the arrival of the 9-5 Wagon can make a success now that we've seen that beautiful, flowing lines and high capacity are not mutually exclusive. Regarding the sedan, the amendments have sat so well that one could almost say that it is more aesthetic and beautiful.

Geneva 2011: slight facelift for the 9-3

The 9-5 scored a small break with other models in its style and its new vintage, the 9-3 will be entitled to a little facelift to approach it (a little). Nothing too revolutionary to predict as the most important innovation, a more massive grille visible on this copy red picture taken in its production unit just before the current model in the catalog.

The only visible cliché is currently not very explicit, but let us hope to have more news soon that if restyled Saab 9-3 has actually show next March in Geneva.

LA Auto Show 2010: Saab 9-4X - Saab SUV blows to attack
The fact that the Swedes want to send a crisp, compact SUV from BMW X3 and Audi Q5 in the ring was no longer a secret anymore - after all, were the first studies were built in cooperation with GM. Saab now moves to Los Angeles Auto Show 2010 the cloth from the new four-wheel drive. The result is impressive: The 9-4X is a sporty crossover with beefy front, flared wheel arches and a slightly sloping coupe-like roof line, which is somewhat reminiscent of the smaller Range Rover Evoque. The basic version runs in front with 18-inch models, the flagship Aero with aluminum wheels with 20 inch thick on the right.

Sporty it is also under the hood of the new Saab: Even the front-wheel drive entry-level version (optional all-wheel) makes 265 hp. The three-liter suction with 302 Nm of torque, the SUV accelerates to 100 km in nine seconds The 300-hp 2.8-liter turbo (400 Nm) is required for the standard sprint even just 8.3 seconds. Of diesel engines is still no question - but made his debut the 9-4X at first only in the U.S., where the diesel engine is also in this class of little importance. In August 2011, the following versions for the European market. Prices Saab calls yet. celebrates its official public debut of the 9-4x at the LA Auto Show

It finally arrived this SUV that saabistes expect so much and he will rush to buy in 2011 (from August 2011 in Europe). an SUV which very closely the lines of X 9-4 Biopower concept car of 2008.

An SUV-looking solid (although a little mass) but not unpleasant to look at including the back which is pretty nice even if we would have wished a better integrated tailgate spoiler, we appreciate the taillights and two outputs exhaust boost the speed of the vehicle. To the front, there is the visual signature Saab adapted to an SUV. The X will be 9-4 in the first (and only?) Time, available in two versions, both engines and transmission.

We therefore Sliding the 9-4X with a base 3.0-liter V6 engine that develops 265 hp at 6950 rpm with a torque of 302 Nm at 5200 trs. This direct injection engine promises a Vmax of 210 km / h, a 0 to 100 km / h in 9.0 seconds and is available in 2 wheel drive or optional XWD transmission. The version equipped with the 2.8 L V6 Turbo delivers 300 horsepower at 5500 rpm and a torque of 400 Nm between 2000 and 5500 rpm, allowing it to reach 100 km / h in 8.3 seconds to reach the Vmax 230 km / h. Both engines are offered with BVA6 series. Saab has made a big effort to curb his SUV as ventilated discs of 345 x 30 mm pinched by dual piston calipers officiate at the front and cate ventilated 315 x 23 mm are doing their job back. The 9-4X is based on 18-inch wheels (235/65 R 18) on the basic version, a 20-inch (235/55 R 20) "Turbine look" at the Aero version.

And with more dramatic styling than previous Saab, the next 9-3, a new electric four-wheel-drive system. Developed with engineering specialist American Axle, it provides as much as 10 percent better than front-wheel drive versions of the economy 9-3. Sources say the new 9-3 just under 4.7 million long and slightly wider than the current 9-3.

At least one version of the car will be from the UK-built 200 hp, 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with the Mini Countryman used supplies. Saab and BMW, gave the deal the day before this year's Paris show.
Saab would also cancel a supply deal for new diesel engines, but company sources are not drawn on the likely source, saying only that "both parties are open to exploring further opportunities in the context of this relationship in the future."

In this year's Motor Show in Los Angeles, where there are two dozen world premieres of new models will be from 9 to 28 November.

Production version of the Saab crossover has retained the main features of the concept of 9-4X BioPower, presented in 2008 at Detroit Motor Show (photos). The compact crossover was developed further when Saab was part of the group GM.

It will be done on the GM Theta platform and is quite common parts Cadillac SRX. Like their American "relative", Saab 9-4X will be built in GM's plant in Ramos Arizpe in Mexico.

Still no official information about the new engine Saab, predicted, however, that base will be two-liter turbocharged gasoline, but will offer a version with V6.

Sales of the new Saab 9-4X will begin in the first half of next year.
