We have details of the upcoming Volkswagen Scirocco R. Yeah, you thought the Scirocco that was just launched in Mzansi was the end of it? No it’s not! Actually, the R itself may not be either, but that’s another topic.
VW has not worked too hard on the Scirocco R in the sense that a lot of its makeup is from the VW parts pantry. Take the 2.0-litre TSI engine for example. It is a modified version of the GTI’s and it produces 195kW of power and 350Nm of torque. Same figures as the Audi S3. They say it goes from 0 – 100km/h in 6.5 seconds with a top end of 250km/h.
Standard to it is a 6-speed manual gearbox and the DSG is an option. To help the car handle better is an electronic XDS differential. LED daytime running lights, 18-inch wheels, a very aggressive front bumper, roof spoiler and new side skirts make it look more purposeful.
The Scirocco R becomes available in Europe this autumn and Mzansi will probably get it in mid-2010, IF it comes our way. No reason it shouldn’t though, I mean they did sell that underperforming Golf R 32 didn’t they?
