BMW 6 SERIES COUPE PRICED FOR SOUTH AFRICA

Another price list from BMW has landed on our table. The 6 Series Coupe will be in South Africa within the next few weeks but already IN4RIDE is privy to its prices. Launched first was the Convertible, which we rated quite nicely, and is now being followed by the hard top Coupe model. Same luxury equipment yes, but same engines? Not quite.

Yes there is a baseline 640i as well as the range-topping 650i, both of which are sporting turbo engines. The 640i has a turbo 3.0-litre good for 235kW, while the 650i makes a heady 300kW from its 4.4-litre turbo V8 petrol. Interesting news is that a 640d is also on the cards for Mzansi. This will be the first time ever that a 6 Series will be offered with a diesel engine. In this case it’s a 3.0-litre twin turbo diesel with 230kW and 630Nm. The 8-speed automatic gearbox is standard across the range.

At a later stage (say sometime in 2012) we can expect the furious M6 Coupe and Convertible to show up with their 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 and sending all 412kW to its rear wheels.

The all-new 6 Series Coupe will be offered with a choice of 9 colours, two of them basic black or white, 7 leathers, and 5 alloy wheel types.

Comfort luxuries on the table include Bluetooth sync for your smart phone that shows all your emails on the car’s display unit, satellite navigation, an option of apps, a R49 800 B&O sound system, surround view, adaptive LED headlights, head-up display and a host of others. Some of these are standard, while others are options.

The 640i Coupe is priced at R841 044.50, and the 650i Coupe goes for R1 127 187.50. The 640d will only be available in the fourth quarter.
