2011 Porsche 911 convertible review



The 2011 Porsche 911 is a rear engine two door luxury sports coupe available in various trims.



The parade of new or returning Porsche 911 models continues for 2011 with the introduction of the new GTS, Turbo S, GT2 RS, GT3 RS and limited-edition GT3 RS 4.0 and Speedster models. Also for 2011, the 911 Carrera, Targa and Turbo models offer Bluetooth and an iPod/USB audio interface as standard.



The Carrera and Turbo models are available in coupe and convertible (Cabriolet) body styles, while the Targa model is essentially a hatchback coupe with a large sunroof and rear hatch made from glass. All-wheel drive and larger rear fenders are added to the Turbo models and any 911 with "4" in its name. The GT3, GT3 RS, GT3 RS 4.0 and GT2 RS are coupe only, while the 911 Speedster is convertible only.



The Turbo adds to the Carrera a turbocharged engine, 19-inch forged wheels, a more aggressive suspension tune, unique body styling, full power front seats, a full leather interior, auto-dimming interior and driver-side mirrors and a 13-speaker Bose surround-sound system. Regular options include different wheels, a limited-slip differential, adaptive headlights, shift paddles for the PDK automated manual transmission (standard on Turbo), a sport exhaust, parking sensors, sport seats (in three different designs), heated seats, ventilated seats, a heated steering wheel, different steering wheel designs, a navigation system, a six-CD/DVD changer, voice controls and satellite radio.



The ultra-high-performance 911 variations delete the rear jump seats. The GT3 gets 19-inch center-lock wheels, a limited-slip differential, enhanced suspension and brakes, a unique body kit, full underbody paneling, manual-adjustable sport seats and faux-suede trim for the seats, steering wheel and shifter. The top-of-the-line GT2 RS essentially takes the GT3 RS and adds a more powerful version of the Turbo's engine -- albeit with rear-wheel drive. The GT3 RS 4.0 is similar, but gets a bigger engine.



All-wheel drive is included on the Turbo, Turbo S and any model with 4 in its name.



Finally, the GT2 RS gets a version of the Turbo S engine, but with a whopping 620 hp. The GT3 stopped in 99 feet.



The next-generation Porsche 911 convertible -– internally called the 998 -– has been making hot laps at the Nurburgring and we have the latest action shots of the 911 soft top. Like its fixed-roof counterpart, we expect the 2011 Porsche 911 convertible to show modest evolutionary styling updates, but receive more significant upgrades underneath.



Compared to the current model, we can tell that the front lights are standing more upright and the side mirrors have moved from the side window corner to the side of the door.

In a nutshell, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS is a genuine racing car approved for the road. Porsche makes this model available to the general public because racing requirements dictate it must sell a production version of the actual race car.

The engine will be combined with a six-speed sports transmission and Porsche Ceramic Composite Break PCCB. All of these components combined allow the 2,998lb GT3 RS 4.0 to obtain a power to weight ratio of 6.6lb/hp.



The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 will make its grand appearance in Germany in July 2011. There are plenty of sports cars out there that will surely feel threatened when the new GT3 RS 4.0 comes out, including the GT-R EGOIST Edition.

Porsche Cayman S Black Edition 2012

The new Black Edition Porsche Cayman S combines performance and style, with a 3.4-liter flat six-cylinder tuned to deliver 330 hp, distinctive alloy wheels 19 "black finish and a luxurious interior. 2012 Porsche 911: Riding Along for an Inside Look - Future Cars

Beyond the lift-throttle oversteer, beyond the repair bills, and beyond the accusations of sexual inadequacy, most Porschephiles’ longest-standing fear is that Zuffenhausen is going to screw up the 911. This is especially true when they know there are big changes coming. Well, this new 911, code-named 991 and set to debut in September, is larger and built to accommodate a hybrid powertrain. How’s that for terrifying? Kinda makes watercooled engines seem like small­-er cup holders, no? But if our first experi­ence with the preproduction car is any indication, there’s nothing to fear.
We have flown to South Africa to join August Achleitner, the man known as “Mr. 911,” responsible for all 911-series cars, and 991 project leader Bernd Kahnan for the car’s final chassis-tune shakedown. First question to Achleitner: “How will you keep the soul of the 911 intact?” He smiles and urges calm. “We sharpened the 911 by making it faster, more responsive, safer, and more environmentally friendly. But we didn’t mess it up!”
That’s certainly true of the bodywork, which is stretched and pulled but still unmistakably 911, even under the camouflage. The car’s body is 2.2 inches longer than the outgoing 997 and sits on a 4.0-inch-longer wheelbase. This is to make real estate available for the coming-for-2016 hybrid version’s electric motor and components. The front and rear overhangs are shorter, by 1.3 and 0.5 inch respectively, and the car’s roofline is lower by 0.5 inch. Because our particular 911 S is outfitted with the sport suspension, it crouches an additional 0.7 inch closer to the pavement.
Dimensional changes to the greenhouse may seem equally small on paper, but they have the effect of making the whole car look sleeker. The windshield is more convex and its rake faster in the interest of aerodynamics—the new 911’s Cd is a claimed 0.29, identical to the 997’s. Porsche moved the base of the A-pillars forward by 1.4 inches. And the center bottom of the glass punches out by a meaningful 3.2 inches so that, in combination with a full-length sunroof and more shoulder room, the cabin feels much airier than before. But the back seat is still only useful for the tiniest of children and dogs. Standing on 19- (regular 911) and 20-inch (911 S, optional for 911) wheels, the 991 looks ready to pounce.
Sliding into the car’s seat is as easy as ever. The shells are made of aluminum and covered with flat, leather-wrapped pads, offering the comfort and lateral support we’ve come to expect from a 911. The major differences inside are the Panamera-like door trim, gauges, and sweeping center console, which sacrifices the 911’s mechanical parking brake to the electronic gods. But thanks to the higher position of the shorter gear lever, the distance your right hand has to move from the steering wheel to the gearshifter is lessened. Small compensation for all the shared parts and the loss of the auxiliary steering control between the seats.
Crank the key with your left hand, and the engine wakes up with a low-frequency belch and a high-frequency whine. Sort of like a mother-in-law. The Carrera S is powered by  the 3.8-liter flat-six with direct injection. It makes 400 horsepower at 7200 rpm, and the rev limiter doesn’t kick in until 7600 rpm. The power is chopped up by either a seven-speed manual gearbox (yes, that’s seven speeds) or the seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic, both made by ZF.
The base 911 loses the 3.6-liter; it now shares the 3.4-liter, direct-injected flat-six with the Boxster S. In the 911, it makes 350 horsepower at 6400 rpm and max torque of 280 pound-feet between 4400 and 6000 rpm. Like the Carrera S, it also offers the choice of ZF’s manual or dual-clutch automatic seven-speed.
Porsche gave us a provisional 0-to-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph. Launch control, a feature that will no longer be exclusive to PDK-equipped versions of the 911, should shave considerable time from that conservative sprint figure (we launched the previous Carrera S manual to 60 in 3.9 seconds).
Why are we so sure this bigger car will be quicker? Because it’s lighter. Its curb weight is some 55 pounds lower than the 997’s due to more extensive use of high-strength steel. And the hybrid version, with its aluminum chassis components and roughly 80-percent high-strength steel, will shave off an additional 22 pounds.
But, as noted, the hybrid Carrera S is four years away; it is due to arrive with the car’s midcycle refresh. Even without dual-source power, though, the 2012 911 posts significantly better consumption figures than those of the outgoing car: On the European combined cycle, the 991 quaffs between 12 and 15 percent less fuel, depending on the engine and transmission configuration.
Achleitner hops behind the wheel and heads into the Hawequa Mountains on narrow R101 North out of Paarl. He changes throttle position more than is strictly necessary in order to demonstrate the flat-six’s responsiveness. It sounds great—roaring and burbling under increasing load, snarling menacingly after the engine comes on the cam at 3600 rpm. Above 6000 rpm, the sound coming from behind us is like that of a chain saw tearing down an oak. But we were long gone before we could check for sawdust.

As with the classic, raunchy engine note, steering sensitivity is one of the things that makes a 911 a 911. The development crew was intent on preserving its feel with the new electric-assisted system. “And yet,” Achleitner tells us, “it does not transmit as much impact from bad surfaces as before.” As we watch his hands work the wheel, we witness no corrections, not even slight ones, at high speed on rough surfaces—a fairly large change from the more nervous 997.
Achleitner also demonstrates the car’s reduced tendency  to understeer at tight ­corner entries. The car reacts more neutrally and does not jiggle over expansion joints anymore due to the fitting of softer anti-roll bars and a 2.1-inch-wider track (60.6 inches) up front. Additionally, the new torque-vectoring differential helps to stabilize the car’s back end during load changes in ­corners. The limited slip provides up to 28-percent lock under throttle and opens completely when you lift.
There was plenty of adjustment work needed in implementing new parts, as Achleitner explains: “For example, carrying over the dynamic engine mounts from the GT3 and the 911 Turbo is relatively simple. But to adjust them to work properly took us thousands of  kilometers to dial in.” It seems to have been worth the trouble. From the passenger seat, the 991 comes across as the most stable 911 ever built, with minimal loss of directional stability during braking and less front-end washout at the limit.
Of course, this new 911 comes with separate buttons for damper adjustment and dynamic driving modes, as well as the special “journalist button” to fully deactivate stability control, or as Porsche calls it, PSM (Porsche Stability Management). The system stays idle as long as the driver doesn’t touch the brake pedal, at which point PSM kicks in again.
But what about the Nürburgring times, Achleitner? No Porsche story is complete without those! The regular 991 does it in 8 minutes 4 seconds, the 991 S in 7:50. “With the best setup, we did 7:37,” he says. For some reason, he doesn’t want to tell us what his best setup looks like. Maybe it’s with the optional carbon-ceramic brakes. Or maybe it’s all the little things adding up, as always.
Look closely, and you’ll notice that the graphics of this new 911 look surprisingly like those of the outgoing model. That’s exactly what Porsche wants you to think. In a novel attempt to camouflage the new car, Porsche used photographic stickers based on current 911 lights and intakes. New rear LED clusters are visible through the adhesive disguise. Porsche’s 911 GT2 RS is a brute, a lightweight, twin-turbocharged, 620-hp bout of madness that stemmed from Stuttgart’s quest to see how high up the sports-car ladder the 911 could punch. Overpowered almost to a fault and with enough grip to peel lane markings off the pavement, it is the most serious roadgoing Porsche ever.
Unlike the previous 996-era GT2, this 997 variant was deemed intense enough to skip straight to the “RS” designation reserved for Porsche’s homologated street-legal racers. That doesn’t mean you’ll see a GT2 RS on a Porsche Cup starting grid, but it illustrates the level of focus the car received.
Making a Rocket
The recipe was simple: put the company’s most powerful street-legal powerplant ever in the back of a GT3 RS chassis and remove even more weight. The engine is a port-injected, 3.6-liter flat-six from the Le Mans–winning GT1 race car of the late ’90s, with a pair of variable-geometry turbochargers huffing a maximum of 23.2 psi of boost into the combustion chambers. The result is 620 hp at 6500 rpm and 516 lb-ft of torque at 2250. Compared to Porsche’s other leading turbocharged rocket, the 530-hp, all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo S—which is fitted with a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic—the GT2 RS’s six-speed manual gearbox and rear-drive layout invite a significantly higher level of driver involvement.
Weight was pulled from throughout the car, with total savings of about 70 pounds compared to the GT3 RS and 400 or so relative to the Turbo S. Some of the more notable lightening bits include a single-mass flywheel, a carbon-fiber hood and front fenders (the latter a $6840 option), various aluminum suspension bits, lighter springs, single-lug wheels, an optional lithium-ion battery ($1700), less sound-deadening material, carbon-fiber racing seats, and polycarbonate rear and rear-side windows. Deleting the infotainment system and air conditioning—as on our example—is a no-cost option and further reduces mass, but we recommend keeping them if you plan on commuting to the track. A roll-bar where the rear seats used to be adds several pounds back in, as do airbag-equipped seats and actual glass for the rear windows, the latter two included on U.S. models to meet safety regulations.
Lighting the Candle
Power doesn’t so much as build with engine speed as it explodes. The tipping point for maximum thrust is about 4000 rpm, and there’s a slight delay in responsiveness at lower rpm as the turbos violently inhale the atmosphere through the intakes. The mechanical clatter of the engine overlaid with fast-moving, tormented air sounds much angrier than the naturally aspirated wail of a GT3. The lack of boost at low revs actually makes the GT2 RS surprisingly docile to pedal around town—save for the firm yet progressive clutch—but standing starts can be tricky.
Riding the line between bogging out and lighting up the massive rear tires—and doing our best to shift quickly from our tester’s right-seat driving position—we managed a deceptively, um, long 3.3-second run to 60 mph, or 0.5 second slower than our best in a Turbo S with launch control. While that’s still very quick, the GT2’s acceleration intensifies dramatically once the car is moving, and is accompanied by a significant lightening of steering effort as the car squats and squirms about for traction. Keeping both hands on the wheel is advised.
The gap between GT2 and Turbo S narrows at the quarter-mile mark (11.1 seconds at 133 mph to 10.8 at 129) and the GT2 takes the lead by 150 mph, which comes up in a blistering 14.4 seconds—1.0 second ahead of the Turbo S and 2.0 seconds quicker than a 638-hp Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. The unrelenting thrust makes the estimated 209-mph top speed entirely believable.
Advanced Guidance
Based as it is on the already stellar GT3 RS, the precision and feel of the GT2’s chassis is sublime, what with its minimal, 3085-pound curb weight and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup rubber, sized 245/35-19 in front and 325/30-19 at the rear. Porsche’s adaptive suspension (PASM), carbon-ceramic brakes (PCCB) with center-locking hubs, and defeatable stability- and traction-control systems are all present and do their best to make the GT2 as drivable as possible. The steering is as crisp and tactile as any road car’s, outright grip is phenomenal and among the highest figures we’ve recorded (1.07 g), and the beautifully firm and progressive brakes can stop the car from 70 mph in a disorienting 145 feet, another near-best.
Overlooking the objective figures, the GT2 RS is simply insanely fast on the road and something of a handful when the front wheels attempt to leave the pavement under maximum acceleration in the lower gears. The snug-fitting racing seats and heavy primary controls are all excellent, and the seemingly endless amounts of grip and braking power offered loads of confidence on the fast mountain roads of northern Wales in the U.K. There is no twitchiness or demonic behavior as with previous hard-core 911s, so long as you’re pointed straight before you pin the throttle. Not that it’s a primary concern for such a vehicle, but we also managed an impressive 15 mpg overall during our drive.
ReentryLong stints in the driver’s seat of the GT2 do reveal some annoyances: road noise is brutally loud; the stiff ride is tolerable at best; the semi-slick tires have a terrifying lack of grip on even mildly damp roads; the car scrapes its front splitter on every speed bump (there is no nose-lifting system as on the GT3); and passing maneuvers will always end in speeds fit for incarceration. The GT2 RS feels like a track-day refugee, and with our tester’s bronze-colored wheels, fixed rear wing, and gaudy red-and-black Alcantara-lined interior, it looks like one, too. Factor in the $245,950 starting price (our example’s black paint pushed the as-tested figure to $249,090) and this is a very focused—albeit special—machine of limited use.
Although the recently introduced 500-hp GT3 RS 4.0 has replaced the GT2 RS as the ultimate sendoff for the 997—and is probably our pick for the best all-around track-day 911—it’s slightly less exclusive (600 units to the GT2’s already sold-out 500) and nowhere near as excessive. The GT2 is a wallflower next to the sultry lines of a Ferrari 458 Italia, but piloting it is an extraordinary event on par with nearly any blue-chip exotic. 2013 Porsche Cayman Spy Photos - Future Cars

No surprise here: The next Cayman looks a lot like the current one, and we’re okay with that.

Update: We now have much closer shots of the next Cayman, and they reveal a more 911-like silhouette and front end. The roof appears flatter than the current car’s, and we can see just how much the stretched wheelbase affects things like the size of the rear window. Less exciting: This prototype appears to have a sensor in the front fascia’s center opening, suggesting some kind of laser- or radar-based system like active cruise control will be offered.

We’ve already spotted the 2012 Boxster in the wild—our editor-in-chief, Eddie Alterman, even snagged a few shots himself—but now we have the first spy photos of the next-gen Boxster’s hardtop sibling, the 2013 Cayman. Since the two cars share a platform, most of what we know about the Boxster will apply to the Cayman as well. This means carry-over flat-sixes, with a new flat-four as the base engine. The current Cayman engine lineup starts with a 265-hp, 2.9-liter flat-six, moving to a 320-hp, 3.4-liter flat-six in the Cayman S. We don’t know much about the new four-cylinder, but it most likely will be a shortened version of the six, rather than an all-new engine. Transmissions are not likely to change much, and the new Cayman should make do with the existing six-speed manual and seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic.
The upcoming Boxster will ride on a slightly longer wheelbase, and the Cayman will inherit the same extension. The longer wheelbase shows itself here in the Cayman’s longer rear-quarter windows and the longer roofline. Aside from an expected boost in interior space, perhaps the biggest benefit of the stretch is that the lengthened hatch affords a larger rear window.
Moving down from the roofline, the appearance of the next Cayman will change little from today’s car. The fenders are just as curved and pumped-out as the current Cayman’s, and the vertical intakes ahead of the rear wheels remain—how else are you going to feed a mid-mounted engine? While our shooter failed to snap any pictures of the front of the car, we got a clear look at the Boxster’s schnozz, and we can confidently say that not much will change up front for the coupe, either. (This is sort of a habit at Porsche; note how similar the next 911 will be to the current car—and the one before that, and the one before that, and so on.)
Then again, we can’t think of much we want to change. In an era of tremendous upheaval in the auto industry, Porsche’s mid-engine coupe is one thing we’re glad to see stay the same. Look for better, crisper pictures of the Cayman as its official debut sometime in mid-2012 draws near.

What Is It?
Well, we’re still not sure. This all-wheel-drive S model is the fourth Panamera variant we’ve tested, and the hatchback-cum-sedan’s shape still hasn’t completely grown on us. It is agreed, however, that the Panamera is plenty agreeable to drive—and easier to enjoy from inside. Fortunately, that’s where they put the steering wheel and all of the important controls. Bless those Germans.
How Does It Drive?

The great thing about the Panamera is that you drive it, and not the other way around, as is the case with many big-buck sedans. There are no nanny systems to beep, blink, or otherwise distract, and, with the exception of launch control, there are no technoid aids. The launch control is the PDK transmission’s party trick—although other drivers may be too busy trying to figure out what the car is to challenge you to a race—and teams up here with all-wheel drive, a 400-hp V-8, and some fat Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 rubber to deliver a 4.2-second 0-to-60-mph time. That’s 0.5 second quicker than the rear-drive Panamera S. To put things in five-door perspective, the 4S trails our 556-hp Cadillac CTS-V wagon long-termer by just a tenth.
The Panamera’s steering is Porsche light, but offers the kind of feedback and accuracy that’s a boon on a back road and welcome on a highway cruise, where fewer corrections are better. The interior works well in both situations, too—it’s all-day comfortable, nicely detailed, and functional. Our favorite detail: the ultra-configurable color display that lives in the right-most gauge crescent. We set it up just right for a weekend trip, displaying speed-limit signs at the top and showing range, distance and time to destination, and audio info on the customizable “vehicle” screen. A nav display, trip computer, and phone menu are a flick away using the steering-wheel-mounted thumbwheel.
Over that 500-mile trip, we saw 24 mpg, meaning the car’s 26.4-gallon fuel tank can deliver a range of more than 600 miles. Our overall observed fuel economy was 20 mpg, smack dab in the middle of the EPA’s 16/24 city/highway ratings. Not bad, given the 4200-plus-pound curb weight and our heavy right feet.
How Does It Stack Up?
Despite having several near-competitors in its niche—which was essentially magicked out of thin air—the Panamera 4S may be most easily compared to its sister cars, which have recently expanded to include the S hybrid and Turbo S models. Comparables for the 4S from other makers include the cheaper and softer Audi A7, the harder-edged Mercedes-Benz CLS AMG, and the upcoming BMW 6-series Gran Coupé, which figures to lean more to the grand-touring side of the ledger. This Porsche offers a unique blend of agile, precise handling and comfort.
What’s the Cost?
As with any Porsche, this one’s up to you. The base price of $96,175 isn’t bad as full-bore Euro luxury sedans go (a rear-wheel-drive S can be had for about $5K less—bargain!). But you’ll surely want to spec the Sport Chrono Package Plus for $1480, because it adds the launch control. Then there was our test car’s extra leather for the seats and dash, which, while playing with funny money, we might as well get, too. We would, however, skip this car’s optional 20-inch wheels and their $3120 upcharge, as well as the colored-in center caps ($185). This example also had ventilated front seats for $800, a $1990 Bose audio upgrade, extra-cost paint ($790), and the $2350 Premium package, for a (hundred-)grand total of $110,545.
That’s undoubtedly a lot of money, but would you expect hyper-quick weirdness to be affordable?

It’s not that any Porsche Panamera lacks power. The 300-hp V-6 is quick, the 380-hp hybrid and the 400-hp V-8 are quicker still, and the 500-hp Turbo—well, let’s just say we’ve squeezed a 3.3-second 0-to-60 run out of that 4400-pound rocket. But this is Porsche, and where a Turbo exists, a Turbo S isn’t far behind. So here is the Panamera Turbo S, more powerful by 50 hp, thanks to a modified ECU, and more responsive, thanks to modified turbochargers with titanium-aluminum turbine blades. The basic design of the Turbo model’s twin-turbocharged 4.8-liter V-8 remains unchanged.

The difference is not insignificant. The Panamera Turbo makes 516 lb-ft of torque in regular trim, and the Turbo S provides up to 553 lb-ft—or 590 with an overboost function. We estimate a 0-to-60-mph time of three seconds flat, and Porsche’s stated top speed rises by 2 mph to 190. There is one transmission: the excellent PDK, a ZF-sourced seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. It routes power to all four wheels, with a noticeable bias toward the rearmost pair.


Germans Have All the Fun

Few Panamera owners are as fortunate as those on the car’s German home turf, where it is legal to take it up to its top speed, so unless you like jail—and what Porsche owner with 175 large lying around doesn’t—you’ll have to take our word for the ultra-high-speed performance of this car. At virtually any velocity, this quickest of the four-door Porsches will charge forward with a menacing growl. It’s unlike, say, the Mercedes-Benz S600 or the BMW 760i, in which speed builds in surreal silence, and it doesn’t take a very long stretch of road to max out the Panamera. That’s not to say it’s a white-knuckle affair. This Turbo S masks actual speed very well, and 120 mph feels like 70. Remarkably, however, the Panamera might be even more efficient at killing speed than building it up, especially when equipped with the optional carbon-ceramic brakes, which bite instantly and aggressively.


Still, by definition and by its somewhat clumsy styling, the Panamera is not a sports car, and this four-door hatchback sedan tips the scales at well over two tons. Thankfully, the chassis does a far better job of masking the Panamera’s size and mass than does its chubby sheetmetal. The hydraulic steering is nicely weighted and provides linear feedback. Among luxury liners, the Panamera is clearly the best handling, with impeccable stability and precise turn-in, despite having to swing around the heavy V-8 and its turbo accouterments. The torque-vectoring system included with the standard Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control basically forces the Panamera into corners and makes it virtually impossible to throw the car off course with anything less than wildly exaggerated inputs and insane entry speeds. The car is ever vigilant for that stuff, though:. It’s impossible to turn off the stability-control system entirely, even if the button labeled “off” suggests otherwise. If the car is out of sorts and you tap the brakes, the system always kicks in.

Beautiful Inside, at Least

As in other Panameras, the Turbo S’s front- and rear-seat room is adequate for its class of short-wheelbase luxury cars, and the tall center console front and rear is nicely styled and looks expensive and tasteful. Being sealed inside would be a flawless experience if not for the occasional creak and a few joints and seams that aren’t up to, say, Audi standards.

Even though it includes many of the $136K Turbo’s performance options as standard, at $174,175, the Panamera Turbo S doesn’t exactly represent great value. Plus, the non-S Turbo can be upgraded to 540 hp and the same 553 lb-ft of torque with a $21,730 power package that includes the modified turbos. But the less-expensive car doesn’t have the Turbo S’s available exclusive color schemes and other cosmetic goodies—the most notable, of course, being the badge.

If you’re checking out luxury sports cars, you’ve probably looked at both the 2011 Porsche Cayman and the 2011 Porsche Boxster. The base Cayman gets 10 more horsepower.

Other Sports Cars to Consider
If you want all-out performance, give the Porsche Boxster a whirl. For 2011, it adds another model to the line -- the Spyder -- and test drivers are calling it one of the best luxury sports cars ever. Rather, the Corvette is all about hardcore sports performance. With the new Cayman R, Porsche also focused on reducing the car’s weight. Also for the exterior the Cayman R gets distinctive fixed rear spoiler, high-quality silver-painted wheels and numerous sporting highlights, black-framed headlights, black exterior mirrors and the "PORSCHE" lettering on the side – in contrasting black or silver, depending on the body color.
The new Cayman R combines all these attributes without compromise. 55 kilograms (121 lb) lighter and with ten horsepower more than the Cayman S, the new mid-engine coupé from Dr. Ing.

The new mid-engine coupé is powered by a tuned-up 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine developing 330 hp (243 kW). The new mid-engine coupé is capable of a top speed of 282 km/h (175 mph) with manual gearbox, or 280 km/h (174 mph) with PDK. With a DIN unladen weight of just 1,295 kilograms (2855 lb) the Porsche engineers were able to reduce the power-to-weight ratio of the coupé with standard manual gearbox to 3.9 kilograms (8.6 lb) per horsepower, with the PDK version weighing 4.0 kilograms (8.8 lb) per horsepower.

The black-framed headlights, black exterior mirrors and the "PORSCHE" lettering on the side – in contrasting black or silver, depending on the body colour – take design cues from classic Porsche racing cars.

It seems yet another refrain of every new model, but Porsche ensures that this version in a limited edition of 600 copies (and 180,000 euros) and 911 closer to a road racing car that has ever been proposed on the market thanks to the close relationship with the 911 GT3 RSR. If the crankshaft is derived from the RSR and some components of the 4-liter boxer, derived from the GT2 RS Road widened wheel arches, front fenders and carbon fiber glass and Perspex, to hold the weight of 1360 kg quota. The GT3 RS 4.0 touches 100 km / h acceleration in 3.9 seconds and 200 km / h in less than 12 seconds and clocked a time of 7 minutes and 27 seconds at the Nurburgring.
